Be a Tar Heel!Primary Purpose Of Organizational UnitThe UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Academic Affairs oversees the various educational programs offered through the School and supports academic excellence. The Office of Academic Affairs staff members often participate in the admissions process and implement curriculum reviews and accreditation.The Office of Academic Affairs offers pre-admission evaluations for prospective DDS students, assists current students with any number of issues, and advocates for the student body to ensure needs are met.

Position SummaryThe Office of Academic Affairs in the Adams School of Dentistry ( ASOD ) oversees all educational programs offered in the school, including the professional ( DDS ), dental hygiene (DH) program, and advanced dental education ( ADE ) programs. The Office handles admissions, matriculation, performance, and advancement of all students. Clinical Education is the unit within Academic Affairs responsible for clinical aspects of the DDS program.

The Clinical Assessment System Manager works within the Clinical Education team and reports to the Director of Clinical Education. The individual in this position will collaborate closely across the Clinical Education team, including preceptors, predoctoral directors in each discipline, and care coordinators, and will interact with and directly support faculty and students. This individual will also collaborate closely with teams and colleagues within the ASOD but external to Clinical Education, including the Office of Computer Information Systems ( OCIS ), Clinical Operations, and Institutional Effectiveness.

The Clinical Assessment System Manager serves as a project manager of the ASOD’s clinical assessment system, which is used by faculty and students to assess, monitor, and report on learners’ clinical experiences and performance in support of the DDS program curriculum. As a business systems analyst, the Clinical Assessment System Manager analyzes, implements, maintains, and monitors the clinical assessment system, in collaboration with the clinical education team. In coordination with many stakeholders, and by applying project management methodology, the Clinical Assessment System Manager evaluates the systems’ functionality to identify gaps, recommends business process design, collaborates with OCIS to resolve solution issues, serves as a liaison between OCIS and the clinical education team to improve productivity, collaborates with Institutional Effectiveness on data reporting and dashboard development, provides project status reviews, and develops and delivers training and informative and well-organized presentations to faculty and students. This position is expected to develop expertise around the clinical assessment system, serve as a subject matter expert, and contribute to strategic planning related to this system.

Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsMaster’s or Bachelors and 0-2 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And ExperienceBachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And ExperienceImportant competencies include: Collaboration, professional knowledge, technical knowledge, analysis and decision making, communication, project management, problem solving, teamwork, innovation, data management, experience collaborating closely with IT teams and serving as a liaison between IT and end users, understanding of educational assessment, familiarity with data analysis and presentation, and experience in dental education.
